Finding Balance During Times of Change

Have you ever had a season where you felt "off" but couldn't quite explain why?

Perhaps you've noticed that you're more emotional than usual.

You're easily overwhelmed.

Your patience feels shorter.

You're struggling to focus.

Or maybe you're simply feeling disconnected from yourself.

While there are many reasons we can experience these shifts—including stress, grief, major life transitions, changes in routine, or even periods of personal growth—it's important to remember that feeling unsettled doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with you.

Sometimes it means you're moving through a season of change.

Rather than fighting those experiences, we can learn to respond to them with greater awareness and compassion.

Signs You May Be Feeling Out of Balance

Everyone experiences these seasons differently, but you might notice:

  • feeling emotionally overwhelmed
  • difficulty concentrating
  • increased irritability
  • fatigue
  • changes in sleep
  • digestive discomfort
  • feeling overstimulated by noise or busy environments
  • wanting more time alone
  • feeling uncertain or disconnected
  • difficulty making decisions

These experiences can have many different causes.

The important thing is noticing them without immediately judging yourself.

Start with the Basics

When life feels overwhelming, it's easy to overlook the simplest forms of self-care.

Ask yourself:

  • Have I been drinking enough water?
  • Am I eating regularly?
  • Have I been getting enough rest?
  • Have I spent any time outside today?
  • Have I moved my body?

These small habits often provide a stronger foundation than we realize.

Create Space to Slow Down

When everything feels busy, our instinct is often to push harder.

Sometimes what we actually need is the opposite.

Even ten quiet minutes can help reset your nervous system.

You might choose to:

  • take a walk
  • practice mindful breathing
  • journal
  • meditate
  • stretch
  • spend time in nature
  • enjoy a hobby that helps you feel present

The goal isn't to eliminate discomfort.

It's to create space to notice what's happening within you.

Notice Without Judging

We don't need to understand every thought or emotion that appears.

Sometimes our job is simply to notice.

Instead of asking,

"Why am I like this?"

try asking,

"What might I need today?"

That small shift often creates more compassion and less self-criticism.

Release the Pressure to Have It All Figured Out

Periods of uncertainty often come with pressure to immediately solve every problem.

But growth doesn't usually happen all at once.

Sometimes clarity arrives one small step at a time.

Allow yourself permission not to have every answer today.

Set Gentle Goals

When you're feeling overwhelmed, simplify.

Instead of trying to accomplish everything, choose one or two meaningful priorities.

Small, consistent actions often create more lasting change than pushing yourself beyond your capacity.

Honour Your Boundaries

Feeling emotionally depleted is often a sign that your energy has been stretched too thin.

Ask yourself:

  • What can I say no to?
  • What helps me feel restored?
  • Where do I need more space?

Boundaries aren't about keeping people out.

They're about making sure you have enough energy to care for yourself and the people who matter most.

A Clarity & Wellness Perspective

Many people believe they need to wait until they "feel like themselves again" before moving forward.

But sometimes these seasons are part of becoming ourselves.

Periods of uncertainty often invite us to slow down, reassess our priorities, strengthen our boundaries, and reconnect with what matters most.

Rather than seeing these experiences as something to overcome as quickly as possible, we can approach them with curiosity.

What is this season asking me to notice?

What needs my attention?

What parts of myself have I been neglecting?

Sometimes balance isn't about getting back to who we were.

Sometimes it's about becoming who we're growing into.

Reflection

Take a few moments to consider:

  • What has been affecting my wellbeing lately?
  • What helps me feel grounded?
  • Where am I resisting rest or self-care?
  • What is one small thing I could do today to support myself?
  • What expectations am I ready to let go of?

Life naturally moves through seasons of change.

The more gently we respond to those seasons, the easier it becomes to navigate them with resilience, self-awareness, and compassion.
